Best results for afro hair

Have you ever wondered how to achieve the best results when dealing with Afro Hair? As stylist or client it is sometimes difficult to know how to achieve the best look, style or condition, here are a few tips to help you along the way…

When tonging the hair that will both protect and set the curl, defining it and making it last longer.

Always use a good range of products specifically geared towards your own hair type. A good moisturising prime care product is essential when dealing with Afro Hair; well moisturised hair will prevent breakage and the hair becoming brittle.

If you don't want to blow dry your hair all the time risking damage, use wrapping lotion and comb the hair flat, then go under the dryer. This will result in sleek, straight hair.

A useful fact to keep in mind, is that Afro Caribbean hair is the only hair that varies in diameter, and, because of the degree and intensity of its curl it is the weakest hair in any group- so treat it with respect!

A colour consultation is always a good idea whatever your hair type if you are considering changing the colour of your hair. Always consider the condition of your hair and view the colour chart before making any rash decisions.

After having braids or weaves removed from the hair, always allow the hair to rest first before relaxing the hair straight and putting more stress on it.

Steam treatments are recommended to deal with the dryness of Afro hair, regular treatments at your salon will enhance the condition of your hair, locking in moisture and reducing breakage.

A mild texturiser will tame excessively frizzy hair and leave it with a more uniformed curl, this is much more flattering, leaving your hair looking healthy and well maintained.

Sleek hairstyles can be achieved by wrapping the hair, making sure you use the fine end of a comb to help smooth it down as much as possible. Use a fine net or scarf to keep the hair flat, making sure that it is not too tight leaving the most hideous line across your forehead.

Adequate trimming between straightening treatments is essential, but ensure there is enough re-growth to provide overlapping when a conditioning treatment is applied to reduce the risk of breakage between visits.

Relaxed hair is the weakest and most vulnerable to tangling and breakage when wet, always use a wide toothed comb and never brush the hair when wet this will cause ultimate breakage.

Cutting techniques can vary and will vary between hair types. Afro hair requires the same method of cutting techniques as European hair so don't hold back, be creative.

Washing your hair every 7 to 10 days is adequate, over shampooing will strip the hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle.

Take these steps into consideration when working with Afro hair and you'll be able to achieve beautiful results every time.

My Secrets To Growing Hair!

Let's face it: there's nothing quite as appealing as a headful of long, luscious, shininy hair.

Since I get e-mails every day from people wondering how to grow their hair, I thought you might enjoy learning some secrets I've been sharing with my clients for years:

1) Be gentle to your hair! Avoid tight braids and tight ponytails, as they can damage hair.

2) Use quality shampoos and conditioners - they're so worth the cost!
Many "cheap" shampoos contain harsh chemicals. Those brands are using cheaper quality ingredients to keep their product cheaper.

3) Eat a balanced diet. Don't skimp on protein (like meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy products) or healthy fats (such as nuts and olive oil) which promote thick, strong hair and nails. Remember, you are what you eat!

4) Take a daily multivitamin to boost hair health. Your vitamin supplement should contain zinc and biotin, which are essential for growth.

I hope these tips were helpful! For more simple ways to get gorgeous long hair, be sure to check out our Articles archive.

Have a blessed day,

What are the reasons for hair loss?

Education on the Causes of Male Pattern Baldness and Female Hair Loss

What are the reasons for hair loss?

DID YOU KNOW?

Hair loss is a natural daily occurrence. On the average, 50 to 150 hairs are lost each day, but most hair regrows because the hair follicle remains. When shedding significantly exceeds hair growth, baldness occurs.

So Now Let's Talk....

Normally, Hair loss is caused by Heredity, Hormones and Age.

Genetic makeup deter-mines if hair follicles are sensitive to the DHT hormone (dihydrotestosterone), causing them to shrink.

This "shrinkage" results in overall thinning hair with time. In addition, the aging process can weaken the hair follicle and consequently the hair shaft. This causes thinning hair and balding - permanent hair loss. Normal hair shedding versus permanent hair loss

Hair loss is a natural daily occurrence. Every hair on your head adheres to a genetically programmed schedule that includes hair growth, resting and hair shedding. On the average, 50 to 150 hairs are lost each day, but because the hair follicle remains most hair regrows. Baldness occurs when shedding significantly exceeds hair growth.

Genetic Origins of Hereditary Hair Loss

In 95% of hair loss patients, hair loss is inherited. Specifically, it's the genetic coding that hair follicles receive during formation in the womb. These hair loss genes make certain hair follicles sensitive to the DHT hormone, or dihydrotestosterone. When this link is made, the hair follicle begins to shrink. It's first noticed as thinning hair, since the hair follicle begins producing only a very thin, short hair. Eventually the hair follicle dies and permanent baldness and hair loss occurs.

Stress and Other Factors in Hair Loss

**High levels of stress has been known to cause some hair loss, but it is usually temporary.

I remember my two best friends, both at the same time, it seem as if a light bulb went off at the same time..they became aware of me twisting my hair off my head as we sit talking...talking and talking I was doing, about how I was not upset at what my boyfriend had done or made me feel...It was obviously very bad, as we were having a sit-down-about-it...The Head and Tail of it is that I was literary twirling my hair off of my head, while having a calm conversation with my two best friends...

- Autoimmune disease, the use of certain drugs, illness and severe nutritional deficiency may also cause hair loss or promote early male pattern baldness.
What we put into our Body is vital to so many functionality, therefore it has to continously flow..

Trauma to the head accompanied by scarring can cause permanent damage to hair follicles.

Even tight hairdos like braids can create tension that can inflame hair follicles, destroying them and stopping hair growth. But 95% of the time hair loss and baldness is genetic.

Hair Tools

Early hair tongs

A hair iron or hair tong is a tool used to change the structure of the hair with the help of heat.
There are two general kinds: Straightening irons, used to straighten the hair, and curling irons, used to make the hair curly.
Straightening irons may also be called flat irons, but not to be confused with clothes flat irons.

There are also irons, called styling irons, that can be used to both straighten and curl the hair.

One tool means that you can straighten one portion of the strand and curl the other.

Hair straightening

Hair straighteners work by breaking down the hair's hydrogen bonds found in the hair's cortex, which cause hair to bend and become curly. Once the bonds are broken, hair is prevented from holding its original, natural form, though the hydrogen bonds can re-form if exposed to moisture.

In 1872, Marcel Grateau (a Parisian) used heated rods to straighten or style hair.[2] Ian Gutgold used harsh chemicals in lotions applied to the hair and scalp to straighten hair, however, these preparations often led to scorched scalps and damaged hair.

Simon E. Monroe patented a hair straightener in 1906 that comprised metallic teeth that are combed through the hair,[3] while in 1909 Issac K. Shero patented a hair straightener composed of two flat irons that are heated and pressed together.

Years later, Sharrell invented heated metal hair-care implements, such as hot combs. The hot metal straightener slid easily through the hair, causing less damage and dryness than previously-used techniques. Later, ceramic and electrical straighteners were introduced, allowing for adjustment of heat settings and straightener size.

Another method of hair straightening is the thermal Japanese hair straightening technique, which acts as a sort of "anti-perm". It is now available at many salons but is quite expensive and must be repeated on a regular basis.

Modern flat irons

Modern Tourmaline Hair Tongs.High-end modern hair straighteners have ceramic heating elements, which cause less damage to hair, are more effective and heat up faster than non-ceramic coated heating plates. Less expensive brands usually do not have ceramic heating elements though some may have a paint-like coating that gives the appearance of ceramic plating.

Many high end straighteners claim to use ionic and infra red technology, which claims to seal in moisture and oils and to reduce static and frizz.

Depending on the hair type, repeated use of hair straighteners, like most other heat styling tools, can cause varying amounts of damage such as split ends, thinning of the hair shaft and even causing hair to become brittle and prone to breakage. Generally, after extensive damage, hair will show signs of dryness and display an unhealthy appearance. However, many companies, such as L’Oréal and Tresemmé, have began to manufacture heat protection sprays and cream which aim to reduce the amount of damage that is caused by the use of straighteners.

Hair straighteners should only be used on dry hair, unless they are specially made with vents to let the moisture out. These sort of irons are usually called "Wet Dry" irons.

Based on the materials used in the heating plates, hair irons can be classified as ceramic, tourmaline and traditional metal flat iron. Ceramic hair irons are believed to be gentle to the hair.

Black Women at Risk of deadly Breast Cancer Type

Black women, regardless of age or body weight, have a threefold greater risk of developing a particularly aggressive type of breast cancer, compared with non-black women, Boston-based researchers report.

This type of breast cancer is more deadly, in part, because it does not possess receptors for the hormones estrogen or progesterone, nor a protein called HER2. This means that women with these "triple-negative tumors" cannot be helped by drugs that target estrogen and progesterone -- including tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors -- or by the anti-HER2 therapy Herceptin.

"The higher prevalence of triple-negative breast tumors in black women in all age and weight categories likely contributes to black women's unfavorable breast cancer prognosis," Dr. Carol Rosenberg from Boston University School of Medicine noted in comments to Reuters Health.

"The reasons explaining this finding are not certain, but it is possible that black women may be at intrinsically greater risk of these more aggressive tumors," she added.

Rosenberg and colleagues studied 415 women with breast cancer. Thirty-six percent of the women were white, 43 percent were black, 10 percent Hispanic and 11 percent of "other" races. Forty-seven percent of the women were obese.

Most of the breast tumors (72 percent) were estrogen receptor-positive and/or progesterone receptor-positive; 20 percent were triple-negative and 13 percent were HER2-positive.

The investigators focused on triple-negative tumors, which are associated with poor prognosis, and found that the odds ratio for having this tumour type was threefold greater for black women compared with white women.

Triple-negative tumors made up equal fractions -- roughly 30 percent -- of breast cancers in younger and older black women and in obese and non-obese black women, according to the team's report published online March 25 in the journal Breast Cancer Research.

"It was known previously," Rosenberg commented, "that premenopausal black women had more triple-negative tumors. However, there were no previous data about weight. What we found that was new was that these tumors were just as common in black women diagnosed before or after age 50, and in those who were or were not obese."

The investigators conclude, "Other factors must determine tumor subtype."

Why You Need to Cleanse Your Internal Body?

Once a year and even better, twice a year you should do a 3-7 day colon cleanse using fruits, vegetables, and their juices. This type of cleanse not only cleanses the colon but helps to remove toxins from the body and cleanse the blood.

This type of cleanse is one of the first steps to take when you have decided that you want good health. It is the type of cleanse you should do when you fall ill to any disease as simple as constant mucus flow, skin eruptions or to a deadly disease such as cancer.

A colon and blood cleanse pulls toxins out of your individual cells, blood stream, stomach, small intestines, colon, and out of the various organs. When you have toxins in your blood and in your colon, it is hard for the toxins in your cells and lymph liquid to move out quickly into your blood to be neutralized and eliminated by your liver and kidney.

So why is your body not able to completely remove body toxins from your body naturally? You body is constantly removing toxins by your channels of elimination- kidney, colon, lungs, skin, and liver. However, when you are ingesting so many toxins from the air, water, food, and emotions, your body is overwhelmed and can not process all those toxins out of your body. So they end up accumulating in your body and result in inflammation and mucus throughout your body.

When your colon is overworked and filled with toxins, your body will eliminate body toxins through the other channels of elimination. Toxins will go to the kidney, lungs, liver, and skin. These other channels can become overwhelm if the toxins sent to them are too much. When toxins stay too long in these channels of elimination they cause inflammation, disease and sluggish function in these channels.

The toxins in your cells and in the lymph liquid can give rise to an acidic environment, which leading to an acid body, cancer and other debilitating diseases. The accumulation of toxic matter in your body gives rise to congestion, such as mucus accumulation in your nose, sinus, throat, chest, lymph, and lungs. And this congestion is reflected in conditions such as sinus problems, bronchitis, colitis, asthma, acne, eczema, hives and many other skin disorders.

Disease is mostly a result of toxic matter inside your body created by eating unnatural food and thinking unnatural thoughts. But then again, disease is caused by feelings and thoughts because you chose what you are going to eat by the way you feel and the thoughts that you have. Anxiety also causes toxic chemicals that affect your body functions.

Doing a colon cleanse using natural foods, which move quickly through your body, such as fruits, vegetables and their juices, is the best way to cleanse your body. The nutrients in these foods help you neutralize many body toxins and help cleanse your blood.

Also, the seven day colon cleanse helps to removes hardened waste or mucus that accumulates along the colon walls, removes excess mucus from your body, gives you a feeling of well being, and improves your immune system. There are to0 many health pluses not to do a colon cleanse using fruits and vegetables.
